If you’re stuck in the middle and don’t know how to connect security camera to power supply box! Don’t worry! this blog post is for you

Nowadays, security cameras come with a lot of features to give you the best quality for captured images, and videos.

The more features the cameras have, the more power the camera will need to keep its functions working without stops.

Currently, most wired & wireless security cameras are powered by a power adapter, which plugs into an electric outlet to provide power to the camera.

Also, connecting security cameras to a power supply box is one of the effective methods to provide power for the system cameras without the need to plug in/out the power adapter.

On the other hand, there are some models of security cameras that are powered by rechargeable batteries, but these cameras are not as efficient as cameras with a continuous power supply.

Now

What are the Benefits of Connecting a Security Camera to a Power Supply?

In the past, connecting individual cameras took too much time and effort, in addition, it cost a lot of money to run special power wires for cameras, but now you can save time and money by connecting security cameras to a power supply box directly.

Aside from connecting the camera with one power source, connecting security cameras to a power supply has a lot of features such as:

First, Having the camera connected to the power supply will ensure that it is always powered on and ready to record footage.

Secondly, Plugging the camera into a power supply will help protect the camera in the long term, which can prolong its life span as there’s no need for plugging in a power adapter, or changing batteries.

Finally, If you have multiple security cameras installed, connecting them all to one central power supply box will make installation and maintenance much easier.

What is needed to connect a security camera to a power box?

There are a few things you’ll need to connect security camera to power supply box, but you should know that the tools used depend on how you want to do the task, and also the number of security cameras you want to connect to the power supply box.

First, you’ll need the correct cables – most security cameras come with an AC adapter that plugs into the wall.

When it comes to connecting the security camera to a power supply you have to remove the power adapter and connect the camera power wires directly to the power supply pins.

Another way to connect security camera to power supply without removing the power adapter is to purchase a separate power BNC connector(pigtail).

Second, Screwdriver so you can remove the pins and screws, and tighten them after you finish connecting the camera’s power wires.

Third, You’ll also need a suitable power box – these can be purchased at most electronics stores or online.

Note: The power box should have several outlets for plugging in your devices, the number of outlet pins should be equal to the number of cameras you have in your system.

In addition, the power supply box should have adjustable voltage and wattage settings so you can match it to your camera’s requirements.

How to Connect Security Camera to Power Supply Box?

Once you have your security camera installed in their locations, it is very easy to connect your security camera and power it through the power distribution unit (PDU).

First, Mount The power supply box near the place you want, and ensure that it’s centralized between other cameras.

Second, there is an On/OFF switch inside the power box, make sure it’s turned off, then plug in the power supply transformer that is included in the PDU package.

Third, Take each camera power wire, and connect the wires individually (Red wire for positive, Black wire for negative).

Fourth, Once you have all of the necessary components connected, turn on the power of the unit, and the green LED that exists inside the power supply box will be on to indicate to you that the unit is working normally.

Is it Possible to Connect an IP Camera to a Power Supply?

The answer is YES, you can connect IP Network surveillance cameras to a power supply whether Wireless or PoE cams, it’s connected like analog CCTV cameras, but the steps used in connecting both cameras are different.

For example, If you have a wireless IP camera powered by a 12-volt power adapter then you can connect it to a power supply through a BNC pigtail or cut the wires and connect it to power supply pins.

On the other hand, In case you have an IP camera powered through PoE (Power over Ethernet) then you can supply your network camera with a PoE injector/splitter, PoE switch, or NVR of your security system.

What Power Supply Do CCTV Cameras Need?

Each wire-free security camera is powered by a large-capacity battery, while each wired CCTV camera needs a 12-volt power supply to do its functions.

The 12-volt comes from a power adapter that is included in the camera box, it’s connected to a wall socket directly unless you have a small power wire in this case you can use a power extension cord.

Summary

Connecting a security camera to the power supply is efficient in large surveillance systems as it allows you to control the power of your system from one place.

The only issue that many people face is how to connect security camera to power supply, but after reading the above words carefully and applying the mentioned steps, you’ll be able to do this task even if you’re still a beginner in monitoring cameras and systems.
